Fitness TOGETHER

The days are short. It’s cold. I feel almost no motivation to get to the gym. I know this is where discipline should come in, but for many of us getting out into the cold to get to the gym is just unappealing. But I’ll tell you what gets me there on the days I really don’t want to go. My friends! I look forward to the buddies I get to workout with at crossfit. Maybe it’s not crossfit for you, but those of us who have a group to hang out with are far more likely to get to the gym.

There is motivation through community. The shared energy of a group working out together can elevate your own motivation. I experience this first hand anytime I get to the gym! When goals are met by one, the entire group feels that. We celebrate one another and feel encouraged to meet goals too. 

The mental health benefits of working out with a group are huge. We build social connections in the gym that are unrelated to physical fitness. Our social lives are part of our wellness as a whole, and getting to the gym to workout with a group really kills two birds with one stone. 

There are so many options for group fitness in Paducah. One new addition coming to IdealFit is to focus on our older adults who have never lifted and aren’t sure where to start. We’ll work out in small groups of 8, twice a week for 8 weeks at a time. I’m looking forward to seeing all the physical, social, and mental benefits that are experienced during this time!
