Pelvic Floor PT: Leaking

Leaking- the most common symptom that brings people into my office seeking pelvic floor treatment. But also, one of the most accepted pelvic floor symptoms in society. We joke in the gym about peeing during our workouts and make our last minute runs to the bathroom before exercising. I want women who are active to know that they deserve better, this can be fixed, and addressing these issues may solve more problems than one would expect.

Leaking can be caused by issues in the pelvic floor that are diagnosed by a pelvic floor PT. After a thorough assessment of your pelvic floor function, the pelvic floor PT will determine the cause (weakness, tightness, etc.) and then develop an individualized plan to address these issues. Oftentimes, simple changes and a short list of exercises progressed over time will lead to big changes.

With improvement in pelvic floor function, you might find other issues in your body improving too. Back pain, hip pain, and other orthopedic problems can stem from pelvic floor dysfunction. Many of my patients have been surprised to find their overall performance improves as we work to address their leaking symptoms.

If you’ve followed my social media posts at all, you know that I’m pretty passionate about this topic. Leaking does not have to be a part of your life. Pelvic floor PTs see huge success with this work, and addressing these issues may fix more problems than you’d expect.

Holler at me with questions about pelvic floor symptoms.
